As I mentionned on Facebook, I was on a business trip to Barcelona last week with my colleague and my boss. We flew in on Monday (after the plane was delayed for two hours….) and we came back on Thursday evening. The whole point of this business trip was to attend the Journal Editorial Meeting which took place during the SETAC Congress: a scientific meeting about all Environmental Sciences.
I will try to focus on what I saw in Barcelona outside the Congress. I'm not a scientist and there's no way I can tell if what we saw was any good ;)
We stayed in a very expensive hotel far from the city center. I obviously can't afford that kind of place so I was really curious about what that would look like. Well… I could definitely get used to it.
And if I had known there was a swimming pool, I would have taken my swimming suit ^^

We managed to free a few hours to visit some famous places during those three days.
| Of course we started by the most famous one: the Sagrada Familia. Of course I had seen pictures and videos of it. I have to admit that I was afraid of being disappointed. Well I was definitely impressed. It's big. And impressive. And really weird and creepy. I wish I could have had the time to check on some details before the trip to know what to look for. But we didn't have that much time anyway and struggling to dodge all the tourists was time consuming enough. We didn't get in because… money ! I don't like to have to pay to go inside a cathedral or a church. Somehow I don't find it natural. Anyway, I'm not sure I found the Sagrada Familia beautiful but it was nice to see it. I guess Gaudi was high on LSD when he drew the plans :p |
Next step we went to the two Gaudi's Villas. And we went there walking. I'm not really fond of walking so it was a bit of a nightmare and my back was absolutely killing me by the time we arrived. It was impressively crazy. But once again… LSD ?
After that we had to go back to our business schedule.

On Thursday morning, we managed to escape again and went to the gothic neighborhood. Well that was a treat. I love little alleys leading to big open spaces with churches and trees and fountains and big groups of Asian tourists !;) Ok I have to stop complaining about tourists because I was one too. But still. I don't travel with my whole pack of compatriots :p
Anyway. I think this gothic neighborhood was what I enjoyed the most. There are of course a lot of gift shops and else but we somehow ended up in an art gallery handled by a French woman. She was really nice to us and we talked about some of the paintings and music also. It was really refreshing and unexpected.

So there you go. My really short time in Barcelona. I think I would like to get there again to take the time to see everything without having to run so much. With my girlfriend also because there were some nice restaurants and I know she would enjoy the food a lot ;) (and the swimming pool ^^ ).
What was your favorite time in Barcelona ?
