So here we are again, it is monday... I don't know why we don't like monday. Is it that we enjoy our weekends too much and hate our jobs ?
For me, weekends mean having the time to do all the things I can't do during the week, being music or laundry or playing with the cat, watering the plants, moving my books shelves, you name it.
Monday means that I won't have all the time I need to do what I "have" to do (I have to do so much because I decided to... I can't seem to be able to take the time to relax so much, otherwise I feel guilty...).
Monday means that when I wake up, I will think about all the things I didn't do during the weekend (cleaning the whole house, doing the laundry, etc...).
I think we should instead be grateful about the time we had doing all the other things : writing a song for a friend, lazying in the sun with a book and the cat, cooking some delicious apple pati.
I really think we are not doing anything wrong. We are just not thinking about it in the right way.
And here I can see what will be my next challenge (and if you feel like it, you can do the challenge with me) : How about, by the end of next sunday - or monday morning if you're like me ^^ - instead of naming all the things we didn't do, we tell all the things we did do ? The result will be exactly the name. If we haven't repainted the wall, it will stay the same. What we need to change is the way we think about it and try and make it more positive (Yep, that's a challenge !).
So let's start now. I will not tell what I didn't do this past weekend. I'm gonna tell you what I did last week.
On wednesday I learnt that it was a very dear friend of mine's birthday. 5 mn later I decided that I wanted to write her a song and I had a lot of ideas flowing in. It was only 9 in the morning and I was at work so, not a chance to work on that before the end of the day (that's always a challenge for me ^^).
When I came back home after work, I decided to work on it. My other half (who know our friend better than me as they work in the same place) wrote down some lyrics with little anecdotes and I started composing the melodies. I think in all the songs I ever wrote or tried to write, this one was really the easiest. I already had a clear picture of what I wanted it to be. By Friday I had the whole structure and my Friday evening was dedicated to editing the drums (which is a bit hard for me as I am no drummer. But I had soooo much fun doing it). On Saturday, I recorded the guitar, some piano and my voice. My other half added a beautiful bass line on it. And for good measure I added another guitar because one is never enough ;)
The birthday party was at 9 (or 8, that was never clear...) and we were a bit late because I had to do some rough mixing of all the stuff we had recorded. But we did manage to arrive the first, ahah !
And you know what, the song was not perfect to me. The mixing was too rough and I could have recorded better guitars and so much more. BUT ! It makes no difference in the end. Because the song was a success at the party and the birthday girl was so happy we wrote her a song. And that's all that matters.
Anyway, after that party I decided I would take my sunday off to relax (see, I'm not good at relaxing but I'm trying my best :D ). We went home quite late for my standards but not so late for party people standards ^^
And Sunday was a blast. Choosing not to do music, not do anything unless I wanted to was absolutely brilliant !
So what actually did : Read in the sun (I missed the reading and the sun separately so imagine my delight when I could combine the two of them ^^).
I got a scratch from the cat (but he had warned me so I guess I deserved it). Then the cat came in the sun with me and seemed to have forgiven me for... petting him I guess.
I also cooked some delicious apple desert we ate in the middle of the afternoon. I took a looong shower with a nice Ylang Ylang soap (which is very relaxing and if you don't know that, I strongly advise you to go and buy yourself some. It's amazing).
And here we are, monday morning. And suddenly I feel better and not guilty about not doing all I could have done. Because I enjoyed doing all the things I did. And now I'm gonna enjoy going to work and do my job well.
I think this will become a happiness recipe for mondays. What do you think ?
And what did you do during your weekend ??? :D
