- Or how I tricked my brain into making me "getting things done" -
I'm a notorious procrastinator - as pretty much every artist. Last week I experienced a musical crisis : I somehow wondered if I was doing what I wanted in music. I will not write about it more than necessary. This is just putting what happened next into context.
I received some formidable support from the New Artist Model group. Ideas on how to decide what I wanted to do were thrown there among so many nice words. I can still not realise how amazing that was and I think I'm very lucky to be a part of that community.
I also received some incredible support from my other half. Along with a more "down to earth" explanation about how I tend to back out when I'm getting close to what I aim for.
That is true. I think I'm more afraid of "getting there" than not going. Because when you get there, you know if you succeed or fail. Somehow not knowing is sooo much more reassuring.
That being said, it is also ok to change the destination along the way, which is very important. So after that amazing evening - and the morning after shame and hangover - I decided to get there. It will take more than three days of course. This challenge is not about the destination, it's about the journey. It's about making me doing things instead of just planning and backing out.
So here was the challenge : It was saturday. Monday was Easter day and I had nowhere to be. I was planning a more "let's see what we want to do" long weekend. I changed my mind (see, it's totally cool to change your mind ^^). By monday evening, I wanted to :
- have recorded two covers (which I already knew because I already played them - though it was a long time ago, they are not insanely difficult song).
- Have created my Youtube account (so complicated)
- Have created my newsletter account and by that I mean, having finalized all the little things I postponed for a long time. The account was already created (and that was the easy part).
- Have those two covers posted on that new youtube account. No matter the quality.
The whole point of it was to prove myself that I can do things and that those things don't need to be perfect. Perfection is overrated anyway - and totally subjective. I will probably disagree about that quality at some point. Never mind. I have had it done.
So here we are, three days later (ok, a week later) and here is what happened :
I did struggle. I did post poned (I had three days...), I did get angry at myself and nervous when I had to press the button to put one of the songs online. And it was amazing. Because I felt relieve and proud to have done it.
Though the second song is not online yet ( I decided to keep it for a week), I've had great support from people following me. I even "won" some more. And now I know that I shouldn't fear to put my music out there. I know I can do it and it will be ok. And I can also decide not to do it and it'll be totally cool also. And that's what's important. Sometimes, not doing is as important as doing !
If you haven't, take the time and check my cover of River by Joni Mitchell :

Thank you all so much and see you soon !
